Mahrajganj (UP), Twenty-nine children have died due to encephalitis in eastern districts of Uttar Pradesh in the last two months, health department officials said here today. "Since January, 145 encephalitis patients were admitted for treatment, of which 29 children died, while 26 people are still under treatment. The rest have been discharged," Additional Director, Health, L P Rawat said. The children belonged to Mahrajganj, Kushinagar and Gorakhpur districts.

A woman from Pakistan has been arrested here allegedly with fake Indian currency having face value of Rs 4.5 lakh, officials said on Friday. Based on specific information, the Indian Custom and Immigration Authority arrested Mehtab last late night when she arrived in the country by Samjhauta Express from Pakistan. Fake Indian currency with a face value of Rs 4.5 lakh in the denomination of Rs 500 was recovered from her inner wear, a release issued by the Customs department here said.  

The government today said it plans to build four expressways in the country, besides five ring roads in Uttar Pradesh. The ministry plans to construct four expressways, including Delhi-Dasna-Meerut in Uttar Pradesh, besides Dhanbad-Kolkata, Bengalaru-Chennai and Vadodra-Mumbai, Minister of state for surface transport R P N Singh told reporters here. The ministry has also planned five ring roads for Uttar Pradesh including in Kanpur, Aligarh, Meerut, Lucknow and Varanasi and their feasibility report wo  

Samsung India today announced the inauguration of its second Smile Twin e-Learning Program (STeP) center in association with Smile Foundation at Sriperumbudur, Chennai, which is dedicated for the less privileged youth. Around 100 Congress supporters ransacked Behala police station on Thursday afternoon to protest the arrest of party supporter Arabindo Basu. Police said the 45-year-old Behala resident was wanted in extortion and attempt to murder cases. The mob damaged furniture and two police vehicles.

IRON MOUNTAIN- Two wildfires occurred in the northern portion of Dickinson County on Tuesday afternoon. North Breitung Fire Department and the Felch Fire Department responded. Allan Keto, resource protection manager for the Michigan Department of Natural Resources in the U.P., said approximately four acres behind the Felch DNR field office burned, which was caused by debris burning.
